I am clearly making a broad assumption and generalization here. Not to disregard the work done by many noble people, but when compared to our sizable population, we are an apathetic peoples.

This may be rooted in our multi-lingual, multi-religious, mult-cultural, mult-CASTE, multi-social status environment. We tend to care only for those who look, act, talk, pray, like us. As such perhaps this ties us down.

Or perhaps all this may be due to the general eastern mysticism, where concepts like the non-ethical universal spirit rather than the ethical GOD plays into our psyche? Ideas like focussing on seeking self realization and self enlightenment etc., though meant to be more spiritual, has been bastardized into a feeling where one must focus on oneself?

Or perhaps I am merely blabbering through my rear orifice. Maybe there is something else that causes us to be apathetic. Ideas anyone?...

A disconnected thought...
Perhaps what is needed for any of these causes is excellent marketing. Targetting the upper middle class and higher, really, making "giving" cool! instead of the next HDTV or Car, or iPOD?

Or perhaps - alea jacta est? we have no control over any of this. Just another cycle. As middle class / rich Indians, we are probably going to make a lot of money and wealth, while jeapordizing our health and jeapordizing the ones less fortunate and the rural community, all to eventually fall flat in our faces some decades from now?

rant... rave...Subbu Vishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08938017811740965070noreply@blogger.com
